Rome is one of the major cities of Europe, and it is therefore no surprise that some of the best attractions on the continent are found here. Heading to Rome to stay in a design hotel? Rome is packed full of things to see and do, so don’t miss these major attractions during your stay. And don’t forget to make the most of your fabulous accommodations, too; some hotels are an attraction in themselves!

The Pantheon

This ancient monument is still incredibly well preserved and is a highlight for many; it will be accessible easily from your centrally placed design hotel. Rome has been synonymous with the Pantheon since it was constructed nearly 2,000 years ago, and, incredibly, it was the biggest concrete dome in the world up until only a couple of decades ago. It is also the burial place of the great artist Raphael.

The Vatican Museums

There are some places that you just have to see before you die, and the Vatican Museums easily find their way onto this list. This collection of museums is an absolute treasure trove of wonders from around the world. Don’t rush your visit - spend as long as you can exploring the cache of priceless works on display. Highlights include the Apoxyomenos sculpture, the Stanze della Signature and, of course, the Sistine Chapel.

The Roman Forum

The Roman Forum is a collection of ruins of arches, churches, temples and baths. It used to be the very heart of the Roman Empire, and you could easily spend hours exploring, travelling back in time – if only in your mind. It makes a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.

The Colosseum

The Colosseum needs no introduction, and many people have this on the top of their list straight after checking in to their design hotel. Rome has long been renowned for the mighty Colosseum, where countless gladiator battles took place for the amusement of the masses many centuries ago. The film ‘Gladiator’ brought it to life, but it is nothing compared to the real thing.

Trevi Fountain

Trevi Fountain finds its way onto the itinerary of many a tourist because it is the largest (and most famous) Baroque fountain to be found in Rome. It dates back to the 18th century and represents a depiction of Neptune. You will see many coins that have been thrown into the water, and doing so is said to ensure that you will return to the city one day. Surely that would be every visitor’s wish?

St Peter’s Basilica

St Peter’s Basilica is located in the Vatican, and is an incredible building that deserves its world-renowned reputation. It was designed by the luminary artists Michelangelo and Gian Lorenzo Bernini and is the finest example of Renaissance architecture in the world - as well as being one of the largest churches.

Discover the Very Best

These are just some of the very best things to see and do when you visit this cultural and historical city for a weekend (or longer!) in a design hotel. Rome is a fantastic city to explore; whatever you decide to see and do, make sure that a few of the above major attractions find their way onto your itinerary.
