One of the best ways to explore Germany is to take the so called “Romantic Road” which is actually a long beautiful drive that takes you from Bavaria, through the Franconia wine country, right up to the foothills of the great German Alps. Despite the 261 miles can be driven in a day, this is one road that you definitely do not want to speed by. After all, it is not called the Romantic Road for nothing. So take is slow and enjoy the breathtaking ride.

But with quite a lot of places to stop by, here are the ones that you should really positively not skip.

Wrzburg

If you want to get some fine wine, and some fine dining, Wrzburg is definitely the area to stop over and relax. What else would you expect since it is located right in the Franken region which is famous for their wine. With wine comes the vineyards, and if you are there at the right time, you may even join in on a wine festival of sorts. But aside from all of the food and wine, you can also make your way to one of the highlights of the spot, the Residence Palace.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber

If you want to see what Germany was like way back in the Medieval age, then you really should definitely walk down the streets of this spot. In all of Germany, this town is certainly the best preserved medieval town of its kind. What better way to look into their future than by going to what is called in English as the red fortress above the Tauber?

Castle Hotel Colmberg

When night falls and it is time to give that steering wheel a rest, why not head on to the Castle Hotel Colmberg to get a good nights sleep. Just imagine, you will in fact get a chance to stay in a real castle that is about 1000 years old. Now, wouldn’t that just complete your whole vacation ? This is definitely going to be one night that you will remember forever. But staying close to its past, just a warning, no elevators here.

Neuschwanstein

As you get closer to the Alps, you will come by one of best attractions in the country, Neuschwanstein. However, you may not check in to this castle. However, there is the guided tour that you must definitely not miss.
