The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the most popular museums in New York City. It showcases more than two million unique pieces of artwork. Some of these pieces date back quite a number of years, and some of the artwork is relatively modern. Tours are available daily. Museum visitors can choose either the guided tour or the individual audio tour. The museum’s artwork ranges from Chinese porcelains to Egyptian tombs and everything in between.

The Museum of Modern Art

The Museum of Modern Art is a showcase for modern works of art. The collections housed here include more than one hundred thousand pieces of art. Also referred to as MoMA, the museum houses paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, photographs, films, film stills, books, and periodicals. Some of these pieces have been created by a number of famous individuals including Andy Warhol.

The American Folk Art Museum

The American Folk Art Museum is one of the more recent additions to the overwhelming number of museums located in New York City. In existence since 1961, the museum portrays a collection of artwork from the 18th and 19th centuries.

The Dahesh Museum of Art

The Dahesh Museum of Art includes many fine works of art from European artists of the 19th and 20th centuries. Most of the pieces portray the classical ideals of humanism and beauty. Its pieces are considered portrayals of academic art such as those found in the British Royal Academy and the French Salon.

Ellis Island Museum

Ellis Island Museum features three stories of information related to the immigrants who passed through the island from the year 1892 through 1954. It sis accessible by the Circle Line Statue of Liberty Ferry.

The American Museum of Natural History



The American Museum of Natural History is a must-see stop for lovers of nature. This museum includes a number of exhibits that span such topics as the human body, the rainforests, and dinosaurs.

The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum

The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is home to an elegant collection of modern art. The building itself resembles a masterpiece with its uniquely designed exterior and interesting interior. The museum has been designed using the interesting circular design for buildings that was created by Frank Lloyd Wright. The walkway leading up to the museum features an elegant spiral pattern. Among the fine pieces of artwork included in the collection housed at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, one can view pieces created by Pablo Picasso and Paul C?zanne.

The Cloisters

The Cloisters is a collection of five cloisters featuring an interesting assortment of medieval art. This collection includes an array of Unicorn tapestries and illuminated manuscripts. The Cloisters sit on a finely landscaped hill near the Hudson River. Beautiful landscaped gardens and elaborate plant arrangements add to the tranquil ambiance of this location.
